Extreme heat or cold?
The high desert gets dangerously hot in summer and freezing at night in winter. The county and cities open free cooling centers and warming centers during declared extreme-weather events — but they are only open when activated, not every day. Always call first: Lancaster Public Safety (661) 723-6063, or dial 211 for LA County to find a site open today. A public library is open, air-conditioned (and heated), free, and asks no questions — often the most reliable place to get out of the weather.
24/7 lines — call now
Still being gathered: restrooms, drinking water, free wi-fi, charging, showers, day centers, warming centers. We only add a place once we've verified it from an official source, so these categories are honestly empty for now — not forgotten. Know one in Lancaster or Palmdale? Tell us.
